Phil Selway – Beyond Reason

Usually the drummer is the last band member people expect a solo album from but after listening to Phil Selway’s debut album Familial, it’s easy to stop seeing him as a percussionist and instead view him as a genuine singer/songwriter. His haunting voice and soft guitar give his music a sense of nostalgia that leaves you wanting more. He is the drummer for Radiohead and one could easily compare his sound to a few of the more depressing Radiohead tracks, but I beg to differ. To me, Selway has come up with something quite distinct and it’s creating the perfect soundtrack to my lonesome, candle-lit Sunday evening in bed.
