Tame Impala – Solitude is Bliss

Finally, some really good music coming out of Australia again. Tame Impala, old highschool friends from Perth on the West Coast, have revived psychedelic rock with their debut album Innerspeaker, released last summer. The album was a huge success and “Solitude is Bliss,” with its great lo-fi guitar riffs and infectious, echoing chorus made this a great debut single. By dabbling in a genre us younger generations weren’t around to experience firsthand, I feel like this band is helping new audiences connect with psychedelic rock, the LSD-fueled rock movement of the late 1960s. While the sound is a blast from the past, Tame Impala’s groovy jams provide a modern twist on what was created back then by bands like Zeppelin, The Beatles and Cream. As one reviewer described them, “This is a band that directs your attention to the classics yet always sounds as if they’re moving into the future.” Couldn’t have said it better myself!
