The The – Uncertain Smile

Here’s a great song by a great old band – The The. This was the third UK single from this London based post punk band and was released in 1982. The group, who are still actively recording and performing in the UK, consists of mastermind Matt Johnson and whoever he chooses to bring into the studio with him. The famous and wonderful Jools Holland is on the ivories in this track and gives us a pretty lengthy piano solo at the end, a real delight! The song is an unpredictable joy and anyone who enjoys the Smiths or the Cure will surely appreciate it. Music like this rewards patience and repeated listens so if you don’t dig it the first time, try and try again! The perfect soundtrack to that “yay it’s 5 p.m. on a Friday and I’m bout to get the F out of here” feeling! Have a good weekend, friends.
