Marissa Nadler – In Your Lair, Bear

Marissa Nadler Self Titled

Marissa Nadler is an American dream-folk singer-songwriter and artist based in Boston. Although she has released five discs to date, she remains relatively unknown (at least in my circles) and undoubtedly under-praised. I find her voice haunting yet gentle and sweet, but the Boston Globe described it better than I ever could: “She has a voice that, in mythological times, could have lured men to their deaths at sea, an intoxicating soprano drenched in gauzy reverb that hits bell-clear heights, lingers, and tapers off like rings of smoke.” Whew. Fan-funded by a Kickstarter campaign online, her latest disc was self-released and features soft folk-y sounds with creepy synths and softly plucked guitar lines to warm your heart, like the one in this song’s intro.

Check out all of this talented lady’s tunes at her bandcamp page! Someone please explain to me why the world is singing the praises of Lana Del Rey instead of Ms. Nadler? Honestly, it is baffling.
